Cambridge UK , September 7th 2007:
Aptitude, specialists in Advanced Process Control (APC) solutions to the oil, gas and chemicals industries, has seen record growth over the past year. Starting with a purely services base, the year has seen Aptitude expand its services and software product offerings.
The European Refining Technology Conference in Rome last month saw the release of Aptitude's first software product AptiTune TM to an enthusiastic reception. AptiTune™ is the first multivariable PID tuning software package designed to provide a comprehensive PID tuning solution for complex process units where interactions between the various PID loops are significant. It addresses one of the most important challenges facing the process industry: Optimizing the operation of complex oil refining and chemical processes, without compromising the safety and integrity of the process equipment. With AptiTune TM engineers can now tackle highly integrated process applications with dozens of PID control loops and generate the first useable tuning results within hours, rather than the days or weeks that they currently need to get a good solution. Michael Harmse, Chief Technology Officer commented: “ Imagine you need to calculate optimal tuning for all of the PID loops on a large process unit, but have very limited time. To ensure process safety, you will want to specify all of the hard constraints related to process equipment limits. Simply enter all of the new tuning values in rapid succession on the DCS system, and then make two SP steps per loop. During onsite beta testing we managed to demonstrate that the AptiTune™ results worked almost exactly as shown in the simulations, with little or no need for further iteration. Several of our clients commented on how impressed they were ”.
June also saw the fruition of a well-planned series of training courses aimed at control engineers as well as process engineers, to refresh and expand their knowledge of process control issues and PID loop tuning. The residential courses ran over three days in the historic city of Cambridge (UK), and tutored by industry specialists with decades of hands-on experience in the industry.
To progress so rapidly, UK-based Aptitude decided to expand its workforce and opened an office in Chandigarth , India in January 2006. Careful candidate selection and training has been rewarded with a strong team of highly motivated chemical engineers who support both the project services and software development components of the business. The Chandigarh team has been instrumental in the development and completion of AptiTune TM , with 100% of the software development activities taking place in this office.
Aptitude Managing Director Sam Dhaliwal reflects: “ All of us at Aptitude have been focussed on growing our portfolio of products and services over the last year. We are pleased about the fact that we have exceeded a 100% growth rate for the past year. With strong foundations in the UK and India and a string of new offerings in the pipeline, we look forward to building the company and taking it to an even higher level over the course of the coming year ”.
